Supporting students with autism

Equipping teachers with practical tools to foster inclusive, supportive learning environments for students with autism

Overview

Supporting Students with Autism (SSWA) was a 1-credit course I designed for ASU’s Professional Learning platform. The course was created to help educators make general education classrooms more inclusive and accessible for students with autism. During the project, I had the privilege to:

  • Collaborated with the subject matter expert and colleagues to ensure the course design aligned with evidence-based practices.
  • Develop accessible, learner-friendly modules that highlighted strategies for classroom inclusion.
  • Create engaging content that balanced research with practical applications for educators.

Challenges

Short turnaround time

The project required course design and development to be completed within a condensed timeline (1 month before launch).

Limited SME availability post-delivery

The SME’s absence after initial content delivery created challenges for timely clarifications and feedback.

Design constraints in Canvas

Limited design capabilities within the ASU Canvas LMS restricted customization and interactivity.
